A Summary of Recent New Canaan Commission meetings

Planning & Zoning Commission (met on January 27)
The most recent commission meeting was held on its standard last-Tuesday schedule. In addition to regular permit applications, the commission continues to monitor the Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) implementation. The ongoing discussion regarding its own structural future (elected vs. appointed) from the Charter Revision meetings was also a major backdrop to this session.

Conservation Commission met on Jan 22 and focused on wetland protection and standard compliance reviews for residential projects.

The Housing Authority met on January 26 and discussed the ongoing management and maintenance of the town's affordable housing units.

New Canaan continues to navigate the complexities of the state's 8-30g affordable housing statute. In a pending lawsuit, a developer is questioning the town's moratorium status. The dispute involves how the town calculated "Housing Unit Equivalent" points after the demolition and replacement of units at Millport and Canaan Parish. Maintaining the moratorium is a top priority for town officials to retain local control over zoning and development.

The Police Commission met on January 26 and reviewed standard operational reports and public safety updates following the recent snowstorm.
