Senators Ceci Maher and Bob Duff defend the freedom to read

Sen. Ceci Maher joined with Sen. Bob Duff to defend the freedom to read by supporting librarians who are standing up against book bans. “Recently, book bans have been wielded as a political cudgel—used to stir controversy, target individuals, and prevent certain materials from being accessible to the public,” she noted. “This troubling trend threatens the freedom to read, the integrity of our libraries, and the diverse voices that make our communities stronger.”

This legislative session, she and Duff are championing efforts to support the hardworking librarians in schools and towns across Connecticut. “Our proposed legislation, Senate Bill 1271, would allow them to securely and confidently do their jobs—free from political pressure—while ensuring that any challenges to materials go through a fair and transparent review process,” Maher said.
