New Canaan’s Conservation Commission

The New Canaan Democratic Town Committee members heard from Robin Bates Mason, chair of the Conservation Commission, on the numerous benefits the Conservation Commission provides the Town of New Canaan.

The commission is responsible for overseeing the town’s open space, chiefly the Bristow Bird Sanctuary. Its members are also charged with inventorying New Canaan's open space, including private open space, which is a challenge. Robin recommends open space donations be made to the New Canaan Land Trust where she serves on its board in ex officio capacity. The Conservation Commission also has responsibility for drought and natural resource management, both important sustainability issues.
